Charities

As you all know by now I am a huge animal lover so it should come as no surprise that one of the charities I have chosen to benefit from the sale of my book ’OPUS’ is an animal rescue center.

But the second charity might be a bit of a surprise to you.

As my first book is about soldiers I decided to donate to a charity that used veterans in their work to protect animals.

Therefore my choice of charity became VETPAW.

For what better way to combine the military and animal rescue then to let highly skilled veterans protect endangered wildlife.

Galgos del Sol

Galgos del Sol is a Spanish animal rescue charity that is located in Murcia in southern Spain. It is founded and run by Tina Solera, an English woman who moved to Spain in 2007 with her family. Upon her arrival she was encountered with the horrible and miserable conditions the Spanish hunting dogs – the Galgos - were subjected to and shortly after Galgos del Sol was founded.

I first met Tina in 2019. At the time I had rescued a litter of Galgos puppies and after raising them for 2 months they had become the age where they had to find new loving forever homes. During the fostering of the puppies I had been in contact with Tina but she had no room at her rescue center at that time so the puppies were better off staying with me. And so they did. All 7 of them.

When the puppies were 11 weeks old, a room at the rescue center had become available and me and a friend packed the car with water, blankets and 7 very lively puppies and went to Galgos del Sol.

It was a two hour car ride and it is one I’ll never forget. We had so much fun. Puppies everywhere and I loved it.

At Galgos del Sol we were greeted by Tina and after getting the puppies settled into their kennel at `the nursery` (the section where all puppies were) we were given a tour of the rescue center.

I was totally blown away over the place and what Tina had accomplished and to hear her future plans for the place was amazing.

As we walked around the thing that hit me the most was Tina’s love and devotion for the Galgos and I decided right there that a woman with that kind of dedication and will to fight for these beautiful dogs she deserved all the help she could get.

This is why I am donating 25% of my income from the sale of the book ’OPUS’ to Galgos del Sol.

VETPAW

VETPAW stands for Veterans Empowered To Protect African Wildlife. It is an US founded charity that is based in South Africa.

For years I have been following VETPAW online and I must say that these guys never seem to amaze me. Their total and utterly love for these highly endangered species are out of this world. And I can’t praise them enough for their work and dedication to protect and save these beautiful animals.

As an animal lover I think that we all have a responsibility to make sure that the conservation of these animals are prioritized and the thought of having army veterans with their military backgrounds and skills fighting for the survival of these magnificent animals made it very easy for me to pick VETPAW as the second charity to benefit from the sales of my book ’OPUS’.

When it comes to helping and supporting our veterans I find that we – the society – are not doing enough. These guys stuck their neck out for us when needed so the least we can do for them is to give them a helping hand to get on with their lives when they retire from their duties in the armies around the world. Unfortunately this does not happen and often highly skilled soldiers are left to themselves with little or no support at all.

To have an organization as VETPAW to take in and put these highly trained and skilled army veterans to protect endangered wildlife is in my opinion nothing more than genius and they will have my voice and support any day.

So by buying my book ’OPUS’ you will be supporting army veterans in protecting endangered wildlife with 25% of my income from the book.
